The History of Hospice of Union County:

1984 – Born from a newspaper column written by Rev. Paul Beatty, then Minister of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Monroe, NC.

1984 – Incorporated as a non-profit independent healthcare provider with Rev. Paul Beatty as President.

1985 – Part-time nursing coordinator hired as first staff member.

1986 – State licensure granted in January.

1986 – First patient admitted in March.

1991 – Board of Directors approved plan to build an administration building and a six-bed residential care facility.

1991 – Mr. J.D. Bundy, Jr. donates 10 acres of land on Highway 74 in Monroe to Hospice of Union County.

1994 –Hospice House One opens in January. It is the first residential care facility in the state and one of the first in the nation.

1996 – Hospice House Two, an eight-bed residential facility, opens in December.

2000 – Opened an office in Anson Community Hospital to better serve the needs of Anson County residents.

• 2004 – Opened new office in Anson County dba Hospice Services of Anson County

• 2004 – Celebrated 20 years of service to the community.

2006 – Opened new office in Mecklenburg County dba Hospice Services of Matthews.

2006 – Opened new offices in Fairview and Waxhaw, Union County.

2007 – Received accreditation from Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).
